February 2016 eNewsletter

Winemaker's Corner

It's an exciting time in the winery since bottling is right around the corner!

On February 15, 16 & 17 we will be bottling:
Haywagon Chardonnay 2015 is a young, fruity, and complex wine with tropical notes.
Vidal Blanc 2015 is a wine that we have not made since 2012 due to lack of quality grape crops in 2013 and 2014. Since this wine demands certain characteristics and a particular degree of complexity, we waited for the perfect vintage, and 2015 was the year! White peach, dried fruits, and a floral profile on the finish.
Pinot Blanc 2015 is coming back again this year with lots of surprises: floral notes, creamy flavors, and more!
Pinot Grigio 2015 is a complex wine that shows the quality of Landenberg's soil with its strong roots and incredible growth this season. Notes of cantaloupe and green apple provide a bright acidity.
as well as our PDX signature wines: Chardonnay, White Wash, Pail Pink, Barn Red, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
- Gabriel Rubilar, Head Winemaker, PDX

We will have photos and videos all next week on Facebook! Make sure to check it out!

Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She's even started to feel like she knows them. "Jess and Jason," she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.
And then she sees something shocking. It's only a minute until the train moves on, but it's enough. Now everything's changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good? - summary from Amazon

Featured Wine - 2014 Leverage

The 2014 Leverage is a deep red crimson in color. The nose has elegant roses, plums, blackberries, green peppers, black pepper, coffee, vanilla, and caramel. The mouth has notes of licorice and plums, elegant velvety tannins, and flavors of fresh tobacco and leather with a chocolate finish.

Cooking with Wine

Shrimp Linguine with Garlic White Wine Sauce

Ingredients:
2 Tbsp. butter
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes, or to taste
1 lb. peeled raw shrimp
1 1/2 cups dry white wine (chardonnay or pinot grigio work well here!)
juice from 1/2 lemon
salt & pepper
2-3 Tbsp. chopped fresh parsley
1 lb. linguine pasta

Instructions:
1. Prepare the linguine according to package instructions.
2. While the linguine is cooking, melt the butter in a skillet over medium-low heat. Sauté the garlic and red pepper flakes in the butter.
3. Cook the shrimp in the butter and garlic. This will only take a few minutes, so watch them to be sure they don't get overcooked.
4. De-glaze the pan with the wine and add the lemon juice. Let simmer for a few minutes.
5. Pour the sauce over the pasta and let sit under foil to soak up the sauce.
6. Add the parsley to garnish and enjoy!
